Set in two iconic decades of the 20th century, a nostalgic time for the current generation, Back To The Future The Musical features the same narrative from the previous 1980s movie and was also adapted for the stage by the movie's creators, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. The high-activity and visually stunning play tells the tale of Marty McFly, a fearless boy who is sent back in time.
The show starts as Marty McFly lives a regular day in a teenager's lifestyle, participating in clubs (specifically in Marty's band) and spending time with his significant other, all while still rather inquisitive of the things he finds. His uncontrollable interest turns out to be his single liability, as upon connecting with Doc Brown on a fateful day, the doctor announces that is the first time traveler to make a transtemporal device (which in truth, is the DeLorean) operate. A sudden emergency that occurs on that night causes Marty McFly to accidentally turn on the DeLorean, surprising Marty and transporting him back to the year 1955. Initially disoriented with the town and people he doesn't know, Marty McFly soon figures out that to make his way back to his own time, he needs to also redirect events in 1955, and the family and friends who don't know him, back to what actually happened.
With similar creatives from the film it was adapted from, each scene location of the musical serves as respect and acknowledgment of the set designs from the previous movie, including the McFly's house, Hill Valley High School, Doc's lab, and many locations in the Hill Valley neighborhood. Both the stage and costume design also stay true to the decades they represent. The musical's move to the theater stage allowed it to showcase one of the leading franchises of all time, while implementing adjustments and improvements made achievable on a theater stage.
